Lowell Rothschild's involvement as a volunteer in the sport began in 1958 when he was asked to work the Tucson Bowling Association tournament posting scores and working the registration desk. That experience led to a career serving the sport in leadership positions at the local, state and national levels. While serving as the American Bowling Congress' 64th president in the 1977-78 season, he created the Education Committee, focusing on the organization's need to educate and train its association volunteers. He also proposed the establishment of the Local Association Recognition Award to honor associations for exceptional service. As a member of the Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame committee, the retired attorney was instrumental in raising more than $1 million for the Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame in St. Louis, now here in Arlington. His experience in fundraising also led to his appointment as chairman of the United States Tenpin Bowling Federation fundraising committee in 1992. Rothschild's legal experience was a valuable asset to the ABC while serving on rules, legal and legislative committees since becoming an ABC director in 1963. He would go on to serve in leadership roles in several other committees, including industry relations, international competition, ABC Tournament site selection and nominating. After his term as ABC president, Rothschild continued to serve on ABC committees, including the Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame, nominating, advisory, rulebook and international activities. He was co-chairman of the Transition Ad Hoc committee of the Single Membership Organization Initiative in the 2002-03 season. He became a director of the Tucson Bowling Association in 1959 and served as president from 1962-64 and treasurer in the 1965-66 season. He also served the Arizona Bowling Association as first vice president in 1961 and as president in 1962-63, where he spearheaded the drive to create the Arizona Bowling Hall of Fame.
