Team USA's Chris Barnes made a big move in his final six games of qualifying Saturday at the World Tenpin Bowling Association World Singles Championships in Limassol, Cyprus.

After sitting in 29th place and outside of the cut number halfway through qualifying, Barnes fired a six-game total of 1,507 to bring his 12-game qualifying total to 2,720 (226.67 average). Team USA's Tommy Jones leads with 2,758.

Only half of the men's division has completed qualifying with the second half of the field slated to wrap up their 12-game totals on Sunday before the cut is made to the top 24 for match play starting Monday. The top eight plays will receive a bye.

"Today was a huge improvement over my first block, which was pretty much a disaster," said Barnes, who shot 1,213 in the first round. "I certainly had more hook around seven or eight today than I did two days ago, and once you get a look like that things can go well."

Jones, who shot 1,511 in the opening round, fired just 1,247 on Saturday and leads Martin Paulsson of Sweden by just one pin after 12 games.

On the women's side, Team USA's Kelly Kulick and Shannon O'Keefe had the day off and will complete their second rounds on Sunday.

Russia's Alena Korobkova leads the first half of the women's field with a 12-game total of 2,691, while Colombia's Clara Guerrero is second with 2,623.

The qualifying portion of the World Singles Championships consists of 12 games over two six-game blocks to narrow the field down to the top 24 in each division. Action will then shift to the match-play bracket with the top eight players in each division earning a first-round bye.
