Wisconsin bowlers take over Classified Doubles at 2026 Open Championships

RENO, Nev. – Joshua Dichoso of Madison, Wisconsin, and Vichee Vue of DeForest, Wisconsin, used strong starts to take the Classified Doubles lead early Monday morning at the 2026 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships.

The two-handed bowlers were making their tournament debut and made it a memorable one as the pair shot games of 474, 321 and 358 for a 1,153 total. That beat out the previous leading score of 1,084, set by Donald Klimeck Jr. of Mequon, Wisconsin, and Russell Hayden of Greenfield, Wisconsin.

Vue led the way with a 591 series that included a 265 in the first game, while Dichoso added 562. It was a much-needed turnaround for Vue after a disappointing 415 series during the team event.

“Yesterday I didn’t shoot as well as I planned,” said Vue. “I’ve got to thank my teammates for motivating me to come back strong today, picking up all my spares and making good shots. They told me to not let yesterday bother me and to do my best.”

Dichoso added, “It was a lot of pressure. (Vichee) pretty much carried me through the first game. We just had to hit our spares, keep pushing and hope we could beat that score, and we did.”

Vue and Dichoso have been bowling together for about six years now and knew how to play the lanes off of each other.

“We had a game plan – he carved the lane for me, and I blended it out for him,” Dichoso said.

Dichoso also said the moment carried extra meaning as a first-time competitor at the USBC Open Championships.

“It means everything,” Dichoso said. “As a first-timer at nationals, it feels great. Hard work pays off, and just being able to see our names at the top is more than enough.”

With months of competition still to come, the Wisconsin duo knows the lead is far from secure, but their early success has already made their first Open Championships appearance one to remember.

“Just seeing our names up there right now makes me happy,” Vue said. “Hopefully it stays up there.”

Classified Doubles features bowlers with combined entering averages of 320 and below.

The Open Championships is celebrating its 122nd edition in 2026 and making its 15th trip to Reno, Nevada. The 2026 event is scheduled to feature more than 55,000 bowlers and 11,000 five-player teams competing across 128 consecutive days at the National Bowling Stadium.
