WICHITA, Kan. - In just her third United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships appearance, Julie Holloway of Reeseville, Wisconsin, rolled into the 2019 event and cruised into the Amethyst Singles lead at Northrock Lanes.
Holloway exceeded her entering average by more than 140 pins on the way to the lead, posting scores of 213, 177 and 169 for a 559 series. Lori Schmitt of Olathe, Kansas, previously held the lead with 538.
As to be expected with such a performance, Holloway did not shy away from her enthusiasm on the way to the top of the leaderboard. She rolled three of her four highest games of the 2019 event in singles.
"It was an awesome score," Holloway said. "I just loved it - the whole experience. I've enjoyed going to state for many years and nationals now as well, but this time, it was just awesome and so much fun."
Holloway's big run in singles also helped her into the top 10 in Amethyst All-Events. After sets of 437 in team and 392 in doubles, Holloway's strong singles performance moved her into seventh place with a 1,388 total.
Nicole Sparks of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, leads Amethyst All-Events with 1,506.
