INDIANAPOLIS - The Wichita State women and Lindenwood men were victorious at the 2016 Hoosier Classic, the final Tier 1 event in the 2015-16 United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season, in Indianapolis on Sunday.

The Wichita State women, who entered the match-play Baker bracket as the top seed, captured their third consecutive Hoosier Classic win by defeating Newman in the title match at Western Bowl, 4-2. The Shockers earned their spot in the finals by besting Wright State, 2-0, while Newman collected a 2-1 win over Ursuline.

Pikeville's Katelyn Simpson used a 239 effort in her final game to surpass Newman's Caycee Landers to take top individual honors on the women's side with a nine-game total of 1,966. Landers finished second with 1,960, while Wichita State's Laura Plazas (1,954), Emmanuel's Destiny Harper (1,927) and Ursuline's Rachael Albright (1,917) rounded out the top five.

The Lindenwood men, the No. 2 seed through qualifying, defeated Webber International in the championship round, 4-2, to record the victory. Lindenwood held off Urbana, 2-1, to make it to the finals, while Webber swept Calumet, the top qualifier, in the semifinals, 2-0.

Webber's Andrew Anderson edged Calumet's Michael Davidson by a single pin to capture the top spot in the men's individual standings with a 2,059 total. Vincennes' Tyler Perry finished third with 1,969, while Lindenwood's Kyle Sherman (1,953) and Wisconsin-Whitewater's Zach Woelfel (1,950) earned the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.

All teams competed in nine traditional games over the course of two days to determine the top eight men's and top eight women's team to advance to match play. The quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of the bracket featured best-of-three matches, while the championship round was a best-of-seven match.

The 2016 Hoosier Classic featured 78 men's and 66 women's teams.
