HENDERSON, Nev. - The Venezuelan men and Korean women took the lead Tuesday after the opening round of team event at the 2013 World Tenpin Bowling Association World Championships.

Venezuela leads the men's division with a three-game total of 3,287 (219.13 average), while Korea fired 3,156 (210.4 average) to lead the women at Sunset Station's Strike Zone Bowling Center.

All the teams return Wednesday for three final games of qualifying before the field is cut to the top four men's and top four women's teams for the semifinals Thursday night.

Amleto Monacelli led the way for Venezuela with a 726 series, including a 279 final game to help his team into the top spot. Eddy Fuentes had 685, Ildemaro Ruiz shot 649, Luis Eduardo Rovaina had 641 and Richard Leon shot 586.

Hong Kong sits in second place with 3,266, Denmark is third with 3,220 and Korea is fourth with 3,206. Team USA, which is the defending champion in the event, is sixth with 3,172.

In the all-events race, Chris Barnes of Team USA leads with a 15-game total of 4,939 (235.19 average). Sweden's Martin Larsen is second with 4,698, while Korea's Cho Young-Seon is third with 4,679.

 
On the women's side, Korea was led by Ryu Seo-Yeon with 664 and was followed by Kim Moon-Jeong (646), Lee Na-Young (642), Son Yon-Hee (607) and Baek Seung-Ja (597).

The Venezuelan women's team sits in second place with 3,089 with Malaysia in third place with 3,041. Canada rounds out the top four wih 3,039. Team USA, the defending champions in the event, are in eighth place with 2,948.

Korea's Ryu leads the all-events race with 4,577 (217.95 average) with Singapore's Bernice Lim in second with 4,570 and Korea's Son in third with 4,560.
