Vanderbilt finishes on top at NCAA Music City Classic
March 08, 2015
SMYRNA, Tenn. - Host Vanderbilt put up the high two-day total to claim the unofficial title at the 2015 NCAA Music City Classic, the final regular season event in NCAA Women's Bowling, on Sunday at Smyrna Bowling Center.
Vanderbilt finished with 10,535, a total made up of five traditional team games Saturday and five five-game Baker matches Sunday, to take the trophy. The overall results were unofficial because the three-day event was shortened due to weather issues last week and did not meet NCAA requirements for an official victory.
The 23 teams that competed this weekend still had the important task of winning individual matches, which counted toward their season won-loss record and is used by the selection committee to determine the field for the NCAA Women's Bowling Championship next month.
In addition to taking the first-place trophy, Vanderbilt went 12-3 in its matches over the weekend. The 17 teams that arrived for the tournament's first day bowled five five-game Baker matches, but those totals did not count toward the overall standings.
Top individual honors went to Nebraska's Gazmine Mason, who had a five-game total of 1,153 (230.6 average). Jodi Gawlik of McKendree was second with 1,149, Victoria Jones of Maryland Eastern Shore was third with 1,138, Carly Thomas of Central Missouri was fourth with 1,129 and Vanderbilt's Rebeca Reguero was fifth with 1,115.
