USBC Youth members watched historic event in bowling history

Getting a chance to see what happens behind the scenes at a Lumber Liquidators Professional Bowlers Association Tour event has been a great opportunity for many USBC Youth bowlers during each stop of the 2009-10 PBA Tour season.

But the five USBC Youth members who took part in the PBA/USBC Youth Insiders' Tour during the PBA Tournament of Champions at Red Rock Lanes in Las Vegas got more than the behind-the-scenes tours and the opportunity to meet the stars. They also were lucky enough to have great seats to see a historic event during the TV telecast.

Chelsea Forman, Jacquline Schumacher, Jahred Gonzales, Alana Ulrich and Ian Hanuscin were part of the crowd that watched Kelly Kulick defeat 2007-08 PBA Player of the Year Chris Barnes, 265-195, in the title match to become the first woman to win a Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour tournament.

Hanuscin said the fans were pulling for Kulick in the title match, and he agreed with Kulick, who said afterward that the crowd pulled her through to the title.

"It definitely was a special thing," Hanuscin said.

The victory earned Kulick $40,000 and a two-year exemption on the PBA Tour.

The USBC randomly selects five USBC Youth members who are given the opportunity to see what life is like on the PBA Tour. Besides a behind-the-scenes look during the PBA Tour stop, they also attend the Sunday ESPN telecast.
