USBC Youth bowlers witness Weber's win in Baltimore
April 08, 2010
Four Baltimore-area USBC Youth members had the chance to see history made when Hall of Fame bowler Pete Weber captured the Lumber Liquidators Marathon Open title at AMF Country Club Lanes on April 4.
Weber beat Mike Scroggins for the title, and Weber's 35th career victory allowed him to break a tie for third place on the all-time PBA Tour titles list with Mark Roth.
Weber also denied Scroggins' bid to become 2009-10 PBA Player of the Year. Instead, Walter Ray Williams Jr. became the first bowler to win the PBA Player of the Year title seven times, breaking a tie with the late Earl Anthony.
After Weber won the Marathon Open, the USBC Youth members had the chance to go onto the approach to have their picture taken with the champion. The USBC Youth (from left) are: Amanda Warner (age 14), Carly Thomas (14), Nick Stitely (11, in front) and Brent Hahn (14). Warner, Stitely and Hahn bowl at Greenmount Bowl while Thomas bowls at Terrace Lanes.
The USBC Youth were randomly selected to participate in the PBA/United States Bowling Congress Insiders' Tour. The Central Maryland USBC Youth Association had 217 entries from 14 bowling centers, according to Central MD USBC Youth Association President Jenna Lipnickas, who chaperoned the group.
The Insiders' Tour, a joint program of the PBA and USBC, gives participants the opportunity to meet their favorite players on the PBA Tour, get a behind-the-scenes look at a PBA event and get special VIP seats for the televised finals.
