USBC Youth bowlers watch PBA show at new ITRC

Approximately 20 USBC Youth bowlers were at the International Training and Research Center at the International Bowling Campus in Arlington, Texas, on April 7 to watch the taping of the PBA Experience Showdown presented by BOWL.com, the first pro event to be nationally televised from the new ITRC.

The Showdown featured PBA champions Norm Duke, Mike DeVaney, Jack Jurek, Bill O'Neill and Rhino Page along with Kevin Reuer, a USBC Sport Bowling league member. Reuer, from Hoffman Estates, Ill., who bowls in the Beverly Lanes Sport League in Arlington Heights, Ill., won a national competition among thousands of USBC PBA Experience League bowlers for the right to bowl against the PBA stars.

Jullian Autry, 19, said it was great to meet some of the pros and see how a TV show is taped. Autry bowls at AMF Euless Lanes in Euless, Texas.

"I've always watched it on TV on Sundays and it's a whole lot different (in person)," Autry said. "You never see behind the scenes of how this actually works - from beginning to end. It was really different."

Danielle Pontecorvo, 15, who also bowls at AMF Euless Lanes, said she has been around bowling all her life and found the experience of seeing the pros bowl in person was "pretty cool."

"It's awesome," she said. "I haven't been to one of these; it's my first time here."

Rhino Page topped Bill O'Neill to win the PBA Experience Showdown. The USBC Youth members had the chance to get their picture taken with Page.

The USBC Youth members that attended the taping were: Alexa Veigel, Andrew and Julia Fugitt, Anthony Lavery-Spahr, Brandon Cruz, Cora and Drew Damschroder, Destiny Velez, Diedra Juetten, Jesse and Jordan Soria, Jessica Joplin, Kevin and Kristian Rivera, Kristina Hill, Patricia Milberry, Tate Taylor and Vince Pontecorvo.

The USBC Youth were randomly selected to participate in the PBA/United States Bowling Congress Insiders' Tour. The Insiders' Tour, a joint program of the PBA and USBC, gives youth bowlers the opportunity to meet their favorite players on the PBA Tour, get a behind-the-scenes look at a PBA event and get special VIP seats for the televised finals.
