USBC Youth bowlers attend skills camp at ITRC

USBC Youth bowlers took over the International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Texas, on Wednesday and received coaching from some of the top teachers in the sport.

More than 50 youth bowlers took part in the one-day Youth Skills Camp held at the training center that is also home to Team USA.

"This has been great," said Team USA assistant head coach Kim Terrell-Kearney (left). "Getting the opportunity to have some of the area kids here in the training center, and showing them all the great training tools we have and the good coaching staff to go along with it, has been quite fun."

The Youth Skills Camp participants ranged in age from 7 to 19 and had bowlers of all skill levels. In addition to receiving classroom and on-the-lane training, the campers also had the chance to tour the Hall of Fame and Museum.

But, of course, most came to the camp for the coaching. Jacob Mitchell, 17, made a 1-1/2 hour trip from south of the Arlington area to attend the camp.

"I've only been bowling for four years, but I want to work on my form and get better," Mitchell said. "I learned that I had a couple of things that I was messing up on my approach, and they helped me out with it."

Miranda Bussell, 14, said she has been bowling since she was 3 or 4. She decided to attend the camp for some additional coaching.

"She helped me with my balance, the finish and helped me a little bit with my push-away," she said of her time with Terrell-Kearney.
