USBC Hall of Famer Sylvia Broyles dies at age 80

ARLINGTON, Texas - Sylvia Broyles of Spring Branch, Texas, a United States Bowling Congress Hall of Famer, died Dec. 17. She was 80.
Broyles, who held leadership positions within the bowling industry at the local, state and national levels, was inducted into the USBC Hall of Fame for meritorious service in 2005.
She served as the final president of the Women's International Bowling Congress from 2002-2004 and was a member of the first USBC Board of Directors in 2005 and served as vice president until 2006-2007.
Broyles spent nearly 30 years as a member of the WIBC Board of Directors, beginning in 1977, serving on more than two dozen committees during her career.
Her service record at the state and local levels date back to 1969 and 1962, respectively. Broyles served multiple positions for the Texas Women's Bowling Association, including stints as secretary, treasurer and second vice president.
Broyles competed in her 50th USBC Women's Championships earlier in 2015 in Reno, Nevada. She made her first tournament appearance at the 1965 event in Portland, Oregon, and had participated every year since 1968.
She also is a member of the Texas State USBC and Greater San Antonio USBC Halls of Fame.
Visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 21 from 6-9 p.m. with a funeral service Tuesday, Dec. 22 at 11 a.m. at Mission Park South Funeral Chapel, 1700 SE Military Dr., San Antonio, TX.
