USBC Coaching concludes successful year
November 26, 2024
ARLINGTON, Texas – In 2024, the United States Bowling Congress Coaching program saw a strong commitment to coaching development and bowler advancement by hosting more than 40 Bronze and Silver coaching classes that resulted in more than 1,000 coaches gaining elite-level training.
Centers across the country held multiple Bronze and Silver coaching sessions, all led by teams of USBC Silver and Gold coaches. Classes also were held in conjunction with annual industry conventions and tournaments such as the USBC Annual Convention, Bowl Expo and 2024 Junior Gold Championships.
The Bronze coaching classes, designed for those beginning their coaching journey or enhancing their foundational knowledge, drew many participants. The Bronze classes allowed attendees to build a comprehensive understanding of the sport, covering essential topics such as coaching philosophy, physical game fundamentals and basic ball motion principles. Coaches emphasized establishing effective communication and motivation techniques, equipping participants with the tools to support and guide bowlers at a recreational or entry level.
The Silver classes were equally impactful, serving as the next step for coaches who had completed the Bronze program and were ready to expand their expertise. Focused on more advanced topics such as lane-play strategies, equipment selection and the approach to the mental game, these classes prepared coaches to work with athletes at higher competitive levels. These sessions also included hands-on video analysis, allowing coaches to refine their skills in assessing bowler techniques and providing feedback.
Conducting almost 40 coaching classes over 12 months prominently showcases USBC’s dedication to the coaching community. The variety of instructors, who brought unique insights from their experiences as Silver and Gold coaches, exposed participants to a range of coaching styles and philosophies, further enhancing the depth of the training experience.
Tom Laskow of Dover, New Jersey, successfully worked his way through the top tier of training in the sport to complete USBC Coaching's Gold validation program to be the first Gold coach added since 2019.
Overall, the high turnout and enthusiastic feedback from attendees underscored a growing demand for bowling education and skill development. With an average of 10 coaches per class, USBC Coaching trained more than 1,000 coaches to move up in their profession.
This year, 588 coaches started their training by completing the Level 1 test online or through a USA Bowling Coaching class, and 372 Bronze and 91 Silver coaches leveled up by attending classes nationwide.
With the addition of Laskow’s Gold validation, a total of 1,052 coaches have been trained in 2024 with more classes still on the calendar before year’s end, including internationally with Australia, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Philippines and United Arab Emirates represented.
