USA, Singapore top field at World Cup after two rounds

LAS VEGAS - Team USA's Shannon Pluhowsky moved into the top spot in the women's standings Monday, while Singapore's Jarvis Goh maintained his lead in the men's division at the 2015 QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup.

Pluhowsky, a two-time World Cup champion, leads with a 16-game total of 3,481 (217.56 average) and Goh tops the men's leaderboard with 3,601 (225.06 average) at Sam's Town Bowling Center.

The World Cup is considered one of the sport's most prestigious singles titles and features bowlers from 88 countries, making it the largest event in the sport in terms of number of countries competing.

A day after shooting 1,702 for eight games and landing in fifth place after the opening round, Pluhowsky fired 1,779 in the second round to bolt into the lead.

Mexico's Sandra Gongora moved into second place with 3,459, while Sweden's Isabelle Hultin sits in third with 3,448. Siti Safiyah of Malaysia is fourth with 3,448, and defending champion Clara Guerrero of Colombia is fifth with 3,436.

In the men's division, Goh maintained his overall lead despite shooting more than 100 pins less in the second round than he did in Sunday's first round. Goh tallied 1,746 on Monday to stay atop the leaderboard.

Team USA's Kamron Doyle jumped from fourth place after the first day to second place with 3,541. Russia's Alexei Parshukov occupies the third position with 3,539, Venezuela's Ildemaro Ruiz Jr. is fourth with 3,508 and Ireland's Paul Stott Jr. is fifth with 3,503.

The World Cup features a long qualifying format as all players bowl three eight-game blocks over three days. The field is then cut to the top 24 men and top 24 women for eight additional games to determine the top eight for round-robin match play. After match play, the top three men and top three women advance to the stepladder finals.
