U.S. team rolls in singles at 2015 Tournament of the Americas

ARLINGTON, Texas - The United States captured nine out of 10 gold medals in singles competition at the 53rd Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas in Sunrise, Florida, on Tuesday.
The singles portion of the event featured 12 games over two days with total pinfall determining medalists at Strikers Lanes. The U.S. team featured a total of 20 players, including four Team USA, four Junior Team USA members and four U15 development team members.
Team USA's Erin McCarthy won the Adult Women's title with a 2,378 12-game total, while teammate Kayla Johnson finished fourth with 2,218.
Canada's Zachary Wilkins held off Team USA's AJ Chapman to secure the Adult Men's gold medal with 2,534. Chapman took second with 2,505, while Chris Colella ended up fourth with 2,443.
Junior Team USA members Julia Bond and Jadee Scott-Jones finished at the top of the standings in the Junior A (ages 16-19) Women's division. Bond took home the gold medal with a 2,460 effort, and Scott-Jones added a silver medal with 2,293.
Junior Team USA's Michael Coffey (above) destroyed the Junior A Men's record score on his way to the gold medal with a 2,809 total (234.08 average). Former Junior Team USA member Andrew Koff previously held the record after his 2,672 performance at the 2008 event. Kenny Ryan edged his way into third with a 2,456 effort.
Ashley Channell dominated the field on her way to her second consecutive Junior B (ages 12-15) Women's title, taking home the win by more than 275 pins with 2,331. Brogan Zengel bounced back to earn bronze with 2,009.
Cortez Schenck earned gold in the Junior B Men's division after posting a 2,487 score, and teammate Michael Schoerner took silver with 2,343.
After collecting five gold medals at the 2014 Tournament of the Americas, USBC Hall of Famer Tish Johnson continued her run into 2015 as she cruised to the Senior Women's (age 45-plus) title with 2,373. Brenda Burns moved from fifth into third to take home bronze with 2,227.
Mark Porter and Craig Auerbach rolled to the gold and silver medals, respectively, in the Senior Men's (age 50-plus) division. Porter posted a 2,538 total, while Auerbach took second with 2,450.
In the Super Senior Women's (age 55-plus) division, Sharon Powers captured the top spot with a 2,279 series. Kristy Whitcher just missed a medal, settling into fourth with 2,179.
Clark Poelzer and John Katsaros eased into the top two spots in the Super Senior Men's (age 60-plus) division. Poelzer finished first after firing a 2,373 total, and Katsaros took second with 2,254.
Doubles competition will take place Wednesday at Strikers Lanes.
The Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas is the oldest annual international tournament in the American Zone. It is an invitational event for countries in the Pan American Bowling Confederation (PABCON), the American Zone of World Bowling.
In each division, one team comprised of two men and two women compete in singles, doubles, mixed doubles and mixed team. After the completion of those events, individual all-events and national all-events champions are recognized.
