U.S. dominates mixed team at 2016 Tournament of the Americas

ARLINGTON, Texas - Members of Team USA and Junior Team USA worked together to build a lead of more than 300 pins in the Adult mixed team event at the 54th Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The mixed team portion of the tournament includes a total of eight games over two days, with total pinfall determining the medalists. Teams bowled four games Friday and will return to Strikers Family Sportscenter on Saturday for an additional four games.
Competition at the 2016 event will conclude Saturday, and the individual and national all-events medalists also will be determined based on overall combined pinfall for each event.
Junior Team USA member Thomas Peters led the way for the United States in the Adult category with a 930 series as the team finished the opening day of team competition with a 3,435 four-game total. Canada sits in second with 3,123.
Peters was joined by Team USA's Josie Earnest (868) and Chris Via (823) and Junior Team USA's Haley Richard (814).
In the Junior A division, featuring bowlers between the ages of 16-19, members of Junior Team USA also rolled to a big lead at the halfway point of competition, finishing with a 3,286 total. Puerto Rico sits in second with 2,885.
Kenny Ryan paced the team with a 917 total, and he was joined by Meeco Walker (892), Sydney Brummett (817) and Hollyann Johansen (660).
The United States also leads in the Junior B (ages 12-15) and Super Senior divisions, while Canada holds a 46-pin advantage over the United States in the Senior division heading into the final four games.
The Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas is the oldest annual international tournament in the American Zone. It is an invitational event for countries in the Pan American Bowling Confederation (PABCON), the American Zone of World Bowling.
In each division, teams of two men and two women compete in singles, doubles, mixed doubles and mixed team. After the completion of those events, individual all-events and national all-events champions are recognized, too.
