U.S., Australia lead team at World Senior Championships

LAS VEGAS - The United States women and Australian men paced the field through three games of team qualifying Friday at the 2015 World Bowling Senior Championships.
The U.S. team used games of 831, 805 and 798 to take the lead at Sam's Town Bowling Center with a 2,434 total. Robin Romeo led the effort with a 662 series, and teamed with doubles champions Lucy Sandelin (613) and Paula Vidad (608) and Tish Johnson (551).
Sweden, the defending team champion, nearly moved into the top spot after firing 899 in its final game, but settled into second with 2,415. Mexico (2,232) and England (2,187) are in third and fourth, respectively.
Led by Shaun Cummings' 702 series, Australia posted games of 838, 930 and 825 to finish the first block of qualifying with a 2,593 total. Andrew Frawley, who captured gold in the singles event, added 668 and was joined by Warren Stewart (652) and Robert Chinner (571).
Russia sits in second with 2,507, one pin ahead of New Zealand (2,506). Defending champion Sweden rounds out the top four with 2,495.
The U.S. team of Johnny Petraglia, Bob Learn Jr., Lennie Boresch Jr. and Ron Mohr are in seventh with 2,377.
Men's team qualifying will continue Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Eastern, while the women will return to the lanes to complete qualifying at 3:30 p.m. Eastern. The top four scores at the end of qualifying will advance to the medal round.

The World Bowling Senior Championships features more than 200 male and female participants age 50 and older from 33 countries vying for medals in singles, doubles, team, all-events and Masters competition.
