Twelve youth bowlers to receive Gift For Life scholarships

ARLINGTON, Texas – The International Bowling Campus Youth Committee has selected 12 recipients for Gift for Life Scholarships. Each of this year’s selections currently are completing their senior year of high school.

The Gift For Life Scholarships annually are awarded to United States Bowling Congress Youth members who can show the need for financial assistance to obtain a college education. All applicants must be current USBC Youth members in high school and have a grade-point averages of 2.5 or higher (based on a 4.0 scale).

Recipients were required to discuss their community service, supply two letters of recommendation and submit an essay as part of the application process.

The 2015 Gift for Life Scholarship recipients:

  • Britney Brown, Lawton, Oklahoma
  • Daniel “DJ” Casas, Friendswood, Texas
  • Drake Casey, Campbellsport, Wisconsin
  • Cameron Christopher, Deerfield, New York
  • Samantha Ehrler, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin
  • Chance Mair, Marysville, Washington
  • Grace Metts, Louisville, Kentucky
  • Freddy Petersen IV, Muskego, Wisconsin
  • Bailey Simons, Logan, Ohio
  • Patrick Tierney, Pittsfield, Massachusetts
  • Deandra Woebke, Ida Grove, Iowa

Each of the USBC Youth bowlers selected will receive a $1,000 scholarship managed through the SMART program. In honor of the 9/11 heroes, at least two of the scholarships each year are awarded to children of fire, police, or emergency rescue personnel. This year, four of the recipients – Casas, Casey, Ehrler and Simons – are the children of police or firefighters.
