Title match set for 2016 SWAC Championship

ARLINGTON, Texas - After two days of competition at the 2016 Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship, Jackson State and defending champion Prairie View A&M have advanced to the final match and will bowl for the title Sunday at 2 p.m. Eastern.

Jackson State, which entered Saturday's best-of-seven Baker double-elimination match play as the top seed, defeated Prairie View A&M (4-2) and Alabama State (4-2) to end the day as the only undefeated team in the six-team field. The Tigers are looking to win the event for the first time.

Prairie View A&M will have to defeat Jackson State twice in Sunday's final at the International Training and Research Center to claim the championship for the second consecutive year and fourth time overall. The Panthers first two victories came in 2012 and 2013.

Following the opening-round loss to Jackson State, Prairie View A&M fell into the losers bracket and needed to win three matches to earn a return trip to the championship match.

The defending champs relied on experience and rolled past Texas Southern (4-2), Alabama A&M (4-0) and Alabama State (4-1).
