Music City Qualifying
SMYRNA, Tenn. – Cherie Tan of Singapore has not slowed down at all at the Professional Women’s Bowling Association Tour Classic Series – Nashville, leading the PWBA BowlTV Classic and Music City Classic in Smyrna, Tennessee, at Smyrna Bowling Center.
In the BowlTV Classic, Tan had a 2,746 12-game total after two six-game blocks of 1,373, leading by over 110 pins over second place. For the Music City Classic, which combines the Greater Nashville Classic and BowlTV Classic qualifying totals, Tan is a whopping 313 pins ahead of second at 5,710 for 24 games.
Joining Tan in match play for the BowlTV Classic will be 11 other competitors: Singapore’s New Hui Fen; Bailey Delrose of Crest Hill, Illinois; Shannon Pluhowsky of Dayton, Ohio; Bryanna Coté of Tucson, Arizona; Malaysia’s Sin Li Jane; England’s Verity Crawley; Stephanie Zavala of Long Island, California; Jordan Richard of Tipton, Michigan; Josie Barnes of Hermitage, Tennessee; Germany’s Birgit Noreiks and Summer Jasmin of Beckley, West Virginia.
The left-handed Delrose is in her rookie season on the PWBA Tour and has cashed twice so far at the PWBA GoBowling! Twin Cities Open in Eagan, Minnesota, and the United States Bowling Congress Queens. She is guaranteed a top 12 finish at the BowlTV Classic for the first time in her young career and is learning how to make the transition from college to the pro ranks.
“My biggest learning curve has been the transition of the lanes, I’ve been watching the other great lefties out here and learning how to make the moves I need to make,” said Delrose, who had a front row seat to Tan as they were on the same pairs all day.
She grew up watching pros like Kelly Kulick and Liz Johnson, who are now some of the people giving her guidance as she navigates new territory.
“I always thought they were like they were like these super-hero type people and being able to see them here, they’re so down to earth, it’s surreal. They’re always here to help the new people too and they’re amazing people.”
Delrose and the other 11 who made the round-robin match play cut begin the first of two six-game blocks Saturday at 10 a.m. Eastern, with the second block at 3 p.m. After those 12 games, the top five advance to the stepladder finals at 7:30 p.m. Eastern to determine the winner of the BowlTV Classic.
The 24-player field is also set for the Music City Classic, which starts Sunday at 11 a.m. Eastern with the first of three eight-game match play blocks.
For that event, the following 24 players will bowl: Tan; Sin; Pluhowsky; New; Ukraine’s Dasha Kovalova; Crawley; Delrose; Lauren Russo of Ballwin, Missouri; Richard; Zavala; Jasmin; Singapore’s Shayna Ng; Sydney Brummett of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Barnes; Crystal Elliott of Palm Bay, Florida; Germany’s Laura Beuthner; Coté; Mexico’s Sandra Gongora; Lindsay Boomershine of Brigham City, Utah; Missy Parkin of San Clemente, California; Olivia Farwell of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania; Stefanie Johnson of McKinney, Texas; Correen Acuff of Surprise, Arizona and Caitlyn Johnson of Beaumont, Texas.
All rounds of Match Play and the stepladder finals will be streamed live on BowlTV.
