RENO, Nev. - The members of Striking is Fun 1 and 2 of Oregon, Ohio, knew they had a challenge in front of them when they took to the lanes at the 2015 United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships.
Although the 2015 tournament only is a week into its 82-day run at the National Bowling Stadium, the Diamond Division already has seen some terrific scores.
Striking is Fun 1 and 2 definitely gave the leading numbers a run, and while they came up a little short, they do have a significant presence in the top 10 of all four events - team, doubles, singles and all-events.
Led by Team USA member Bryanna Caldwell's 655 series, Striking is Fun 2 put together games of 725, 946 and 834 for a 2,505 total, which is second in Diamond Team. Caldwell was followed by fellow Team USA member Missy Parkin (643), Cassandra Leuthold (617) and Samantha Schaden (590).
East Coast of Palm Harbor, Florida, leads Diamond Team with a 2,588 total.
Striking is Fun 1 wasn't far behind and settled into third place with a 2,404 effort. Jodi Woessner, the 2010 Diamond and Scratch All-Events champion, rolled a 647 series Saturday and helped Striking is Fun 1 to games of 781, 850 and 773.
Woessner was joined by Rachael Delserone (637), Jessica Hatcher (589) and Tracy Distel (531).
Individually, Leuthold turned in the best overall performance. The former Junior Team USA member, who rolled a 299 at last year's USBC Women's Championships, is second in Diamond Singles with 697 and third in Diamond All-Events with 1,899. Parkin pulled in right behind her with 679 in singles on the way to a 1,898 all-events total, which puts her third and fourth, respectively.
The group now holds five of the top 10 spots in the all-events standings, four in singles and four in the doubles.
"We've been bowling together for three years as a team, and we work very well together," said Parkin, a 2003 Classic Team champion at the Women's Championships. "We come and have fun, which is important. If you have chemistry, that helps. But we all do the best we can."
The Diamond Division is for teams with entering averages of 725 and above, Diamond Doubles includes team with combined entering averages of 380 and above and individuals in the Diamond Division enter with averages of 190 and higher.
