SMART Fund gets big show of support

Southern California Grand Prix Scholarship Program demonstrates support of SMART Fund with $475,000 transfer
ARLINGTON, Texas – In a demonstration of support for the SMART Corporation Fund, the Southern California Grand Prix Scholarship Foundation has transferred more than $475,000 in youth scholarship funds to SMART.
The Foundation of the Bowling Proprietors Association of Southern California had previously managed the Grand Prix funds prior to the transfer to SMART.
“We have confidence in the SMART Corporation and its leadership and feel it is in the best interest of our youth bowlers for their scholarship funds to be safely managed by SMART,” said Foundation President Gary Forman. “Having all youth scholarships in a central location where parents and students know the funds will be safe and handled in accordance with amateur eligibility requirements is good for all of bowling.”
Youth bowlers who earned scholarships through the Southern California Grand Prix competition may now access their funds through SMART.
“The SMART Board is extremely grateful for this show of support by a leading group of proprietors and tournament operators,” SMART Corporation Board Chairman Wally Hall said. “I hope that other tournaments will follow this example and that parents will start demanding that their child’s scholarships and eligibility are properly protected through the SMART Fund.”
The United States Bowling Congress SMART (Scholarship Management and Accounting Reports for Tenpins) program began operation in 1994 as a service offering the bowling community a centralized location to manage bowling scholarship funds as well as providing USBC members with a resource for inquiries about bowling scholarships. In 2010, the SMART Bowling Scholarship Funding Corporation was created as an independent entity dedicated to the management, protection and promotion of the SMART scholarship funds.
