SCAD-Savannah women, Webber International men earn wins at Brunswick Southern Collegiate Classic

The Savannah College of Art and Design-Savannah (SCAD) women captured their first-ever Tier I win, while the Webber International men made it back-to-back titles at last weekend’s Brunswick Southern Collegiate Classic, the third Tier I event of the 2019-2020 USBC Collegiate season.
A total of 22 women's and 34 men's varsity programs competed over the weekend, with women’s competition held at Bowlero Marietta and the men lacing up at Bowlero Austell. All teams bowled six traditional games Saturday and 24 Baker games Sunday, with total pinfall determining the champions in each division.
In the women’s division, Martin Methodist found itself in the lead after Game 1 on Saturday, which was the last time a team other than SCAD-Savannah would hold the lead during traditional team play or Baker competition. The Bees fired 1,011 in Game 2 to move into the lead, which they never relinquished, and posted a two-day total of 10,298.
Pikeville finished second (10,095) and were the owners of the highest team game (1,071). Webber posted the highest Baker total in the women’s division on Sunday to finish in third (9,955) and were followed by Martin Methodist (9,759) and McKendree (9,713).
The Webber International men made it back-to-back Brunswick Southern titles after a dominant performance in the men’s division. Like the SCAD-Savannah women, the Warriors claimed the lead in Game 2 after posting 1,166, which set the course for a trip to the winner’s circle. The Warriors posted the highest team and Baker totals to cruise to the title with a total of 11,681.
Despite tossing the highest team game of the event (1,189), McKendree never could catch Webber in the standings and never fell lower than second (11,306). The SCAD-Savannah men began Baker in fifth place before posting the second-highest Baker set (4,969) to settle into third with a total of 11,216. Indiana Tech (11,153) and Lincoln Memorial (11,053) rounded out the top five.
The all-tournament teams in each division were determined after Saturday's six-game block.
The top performers in the women's division were led by SCAD-Savannah’s Rebekah Commane, who fired a six-game total of 1,298, an average of 216.33. Lauren Piotrowski of Pikeville was second (1,294), followed by Caitlyn Johnson of Webber (1,271), Emmanuel’s Elizabeth O’Brien (1,206) and Paige Stokes of Northern Kentucky (1,184).
The men's team featured Jacob Balser of Indiana Tech, who paced the field with a six-game pinfall total of 1,438, an average of 239.7. Tommy Hankey of Webber was second with (1,428), and was followed by McKendree’s Andrew Orf (1,371), Webber’s Evan Baranecky (1,366) and Michael Mirabile of St. John’s (1,364).
