Sam Houston State wins Battle of the Piney Woods

ARLINGTON, Texas - The Sam Houston State University and Stephen F. Austin University women's bowling teams kicked off their seasons at the International Training and Research Center on Saturday with a head-to-head match.
For the second consecutive year, the teams met at the International Bowling Campus for The Battle of the Piney Woods. The event, which was broken into two parts, was broadcast live on BOWL.com. The first match featured one team game, while the second was comprised of six Baker games.
Sophomore Neishka Cardona rolled a 227 game, and junior Michelle Secours led all bowlers with a 234 effort in the team match to help Sam Houston State to a 977-887 victory. Stephen F. Austin (photo, left) was led by junior Ashlie Rosenkranz, who fired a 216 game.
Sam Houston State took an early lead in the Baker match with 212 start and never looked back en route to winning the six-game set, 1,182-1,067.
With the victory, Sam Houston State starts the season at 2-0, while Stephen F. Austin is 0-2.
