Reinke rolls first 300 at USBC Youth Open
July 15, 2011
Rolling a perfect game is always a special accomplishment. But shooting your first 300 at a national tournament makes it even better.
Dan Reinke of New Ulm, Minn., became the first participant to have a 300 game at this year's United States Bowling Congress Youth Open. His perfect game came during Team competition on July 14. It was his first certified 300.
"It's special getting the first one," he said. When he reached the final frame, Reinke said he tried to "put it off like it was the first frame and not worry about where I was in the game."
Reinke, a right-hander who will be a senior this year at Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School, joined with other bowlers from Minnesota to form a team - BADD of Brooklyn Center, Minn. With his 300 game, BADD combined for 2,580, which currently is ninth in Team at the Youth Open. He shot 1,895 All Events.
The USBC Youth Open started July 8 and will run through July 24 at South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas. Open to any USBC Youth bowler, the Youth Open has four average-based divisions so bowlers are matched according to skill, not age or gender. All scores are scratch. Participants bowl nine games total - three games each of singles, doubles and four-player team.
For Reinke, 17, this was his first time to participate in the Youth Open. He also competed in his first USBC Junior Gold Championships, also being held in Las Vegas, earlier in the week. Though he bowled well at Junior Gold, he did not make the cut after three days of qualifying but said he learned a lot from the experience.
