QubicaAMF CEO John Walker joins SMART Board
January 14, 2014
ARLINGTON, Texas – John Walker, President and Chief Executive Officer of QubicaAMF Worldwide, will join the SMART Corporation Board of Directors effective January 2014. Walker replaces attorney and financial consultant Sandy Hansell, who is retiring from the SMART Board. SMART is a scholarship management program for youth bowlers.
“On behalf of the SMART Board, I want to thank Sandy Hansell for his nearly four years of service to youth bowling, helping guide the protection and management of the SMART fund,” SMART Corporation Board Chairman Wally Hall said. “We are very pleased to have John Walker, one of the industry’s most respected business executives, accept the invitation to join the board.”
Walker joined AMF Bowling Products as Vice President Consumer Products in 1998. After serving in a variety of management roles, he became President and Chief Operating Officer of the company in 2003. Upon the merger of Qubica Worldwide and AMF Bowling Products, Walker became the President and CEO of QubicaAMF Worldwide. Prior to joining the company, Walker served in a variety of management roles for Honeywell, Procter & Gamble, Murrey Ohio Manufacturing Company and Crestar Bank. Walker holds both a bachelor’s degree and MBA from the University of Virginia.
Walker will join Hall and Steve Moehrle on the SMART Board.
Hall holds a degree from Harvard Business School and is a former president of the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America. Hall has 50 years of industry business experience, including serving as President and CEO of Fair Lanes Inc., when it was the largest independent center chain in the country.
Moehrle holds a Ph.D. in business from Indiana University and serves as the leadership council distinguished scholar in accounting at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Before entering the academic profession, he was a member of the Ernst & Young audit staff and accounting policy officer at Citicorp Mortgage, Inc. He is a former member of the USBC Board of the Directors.
“Wally Hall, Sandy Hansell and Steve Moehrle are three of the bowling industry’s most respected business and financial leaders, and I am honored to join them on the SMART Board,” Walker said. “Overseeing the safety of these scholarship funds is an important responsibility and I will do my best to ensure SMART funds are protected for the youth bowlers who have earned the rights to use them for their education.”
The United States Bowling Congress SMART program began operation in 1994 as a service offering the bowling community a centralized location to manage bowling scholarship funds, as well as providing USBC members with a resource for inquiries about bowling scholarships. In 2010, the SMART Bowling Scholarship Funding Corporation was created as an independent entity dedicated to the management, protection and promotion of the SMART scholarship funds.
