QUALIFYING RESULTS
DALLAS - Qualifying concluded Wednesday at the 2018 USA Bowling National Championships presented by Sixlets, with several familiar teams near the top of the standings.
The 2018 USA Bowling National Championships features the top 12-and-under (U12) and 15-and-under (U15) youth teams competing for a national title. The 14 U12 teams and 16 U15 teams earned their spots in the field by winning a regional event.
Teams in the U12 division bowled 13 Baker matches Wednesday at AMF Garland to determine seeding for Thursday's double-elimination bracket, while teams in U15 bowled 15 Baker matches.
A team's match-play record in qualifying determined its seeding, with total pinfall breaking any ties.
Four the Love of Boba, the Pacific Southwest champion, posted an 11-2 mark to earn the top seed in U12. Diego Jara and Nihal Mareedu helped lead Four the Love of Boba to the top spot as they seek a second consecutive title in the U12 division. They helped Cloverleaf Strikers claim the title in 2017.
Joining Diego and Nihal in 2018 are Saphyre Nofuente and Ethan Ranario.
Smyrna Strikers, representing the Atlantic East region, will be the No. 2 seed in the U12 division after posting a 10-3 record. The team includes Henry Hind, Dalton Lawwell, Josh Morgan and Matteo Quintero.
In the U15 division, the Southeast regional champions, Southeast Pin Crushers, used a 12-3 record to earn the top seed. The team features Kendall Battles, Ethan Collier, Joshua Collins, Savannah Croft, Logan Fossum and Jake Holbein.
The defending U15 champions, 3 Rights Make A Left, finished qualifying in second place with a 11.5-3.5 record. The team, which won the Midwest regional, returns three of the four players from last year's squad - Brandon Bonta, Silas Limes and Spencer Robarge - and also made history Wednesday after rolling the first Baker 300 game at the USA Bowling National Championships.
Piper Reams joined 3 Rights Make A Left in 2018.
Match play will start Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Eastern at USA Bowl in Dallas and will consist of best-of-three Baker matches. By the end of competition, the finalists in each division will be determined and compete for the national title Saturday at the International Training and Research Center in Arlington.
The finals will be taped for broadcast and air in August on CBS Sports Network.
BowlTV will provide livestream coverage of Thursday's bracket matches.
