Prather continues to lead as 2018 U.S. Open heads to match play

WICHITA, Kan. - Kristopher Prather of Plainfield, Illinois, remains at the top of the standings as the 2018 U.S. Open transitions to round-robin match play.
After a rough block Sunday, the 26-year-old right-hander rebounded Monday at Northrock Lanes, posting an eight-game total of 1,805 in the cashers' round to bring his overall score to 7,160, a 223.75 average.
The field at the 2018 U.S. Open started with 144 players and was cut to the top 36 after three eight-game qualifying blocks. The 36 advancers returned to the lanes Monday for an additional eight games to determine the 24 bowlers moving on to match play.
Jakob Butturff of Chandler, Arizona, led Monday's early round, averaging more than 242 on his way to a 1,940 total, to jump into second place overall with 7,036. Butturff made his move in a similar fashion at the 2017 U.S. Open in Liverpool, New York, where he ended up earning the top seed by 617 pins on his way to a runner-up finish.
England's Dom Barrett (6,906), Jason Sterner of Covington, Georgia (6,877), and Anthony Simonsen of Austin, Texas (6,862), round out the top five.
Defending champion Rhino Page of Orlando, Florida, sits in ninth place with 6,766.
Dallas Leong of Las Vegas earned the final spot in match play, finishing with a 6,601 total, a 206.28 average.
Match play will begin Monday at 6 p.m. Eastern with the first of three eight-game rounds. Match play resumes Tuesday at 11 a.m. Eastern with the final two blocks, including a position round. The five finalists will be determined by total pinfall, including bonus pins, for 56 games.
The stepladder finals will take place Wednesday and air live on CBS Sports Network at 8 p.m. Eastern, awarding the champion the $30,000 top prize and coveted green jacket.
The U.S. Open is the fourth and final major championship on the 2018 Professional Bowlers Association Tour schedule and is conducted jointly by the United States Bowling Congress and Bowling Proprietors' Association of America.
Each round of the 2018 U.S. Open leading up to the stepladder finals will be broadcast live on PBA's online bowling channel Xtra Frame on FloBowling.
