Perfect game rolled at Youth Open

ARLINGTON, Texas - Josh Mullen of Bellingham, Wash., shot a 300 game at the United States Bowling Congress Youth Open Championships on Friday to become just the fourth bowler to accomplish the feat in tournament history.
Mullen, 19, rolled his perfect game during team competition at Sterling Lanes in Sterling, Mich., on Friday morning. He started the day with a 279, shot 300 and finished with a 193 for a 772 series.
Mullen isn't new to success at the Youth Open. He teamed with his younger brother, Jacob, to win the Division 2 Doubles title last year and finished fourth in All-Events.
With 700 in singles and 506 in doubles, Mullen currently is seventh in Under 20 All-Events with a 2,032 total. The 2013 USBC Youth Open Championships runs through July 28.
Dan Reinke of New Ulm, Minn., had the first 300 game in the tournament's history in 2011 in Las Vegas. Jacob Kent of Newark, N.Y., also had a perfect game that year. Adam Morse of West Des Moines, Iowa, had a 300 game at this year's tournament on July 13.
Mullen, who took part in the North Pointe Junior Gold Championships earlier in the week, bowled in the Park Juniors League at Park Bowl this season. He rolled an 800 series, an 802 with games of 278, 278 and 246, at the Whatcom County Annual Youth tournament on March 2.
The USBC Youth Open is a non-qualifying national tournament that is open to all USBC Youth members. Competitors bowl nine games total - three games each of singles, doubles and four-player team. The combined scores from those events is the all-events score. All scores are scratch.
