JACKSON, Mich. (Aug. 1, 2019) – Hoping to end a two-year drought without a win on the PBA50 Tour, PBA Hall of Famer Parker Bohn III of Jackson, New Jersey averaged 237 for 16 games to emerge as the qualifying leader for the PBA50 David Small’s JAX 60 Classic presented by Track.

The four-time PBA50 Tour titlist started Thursday’s second eight-game round at JAX 60 Lanes with a 205 game and then caught fire bowling games of 258, 258, 278, 245, 248, 246 and 235 bringing his two-round qualifying pinfall total to 3,803. He had no open frames in his second round.

“The good shots resulted in strikes and the bad shots resulted in nothing worse than a makeable spare,” said Bohn, who also has won 35 times on the Go Bowling! PBA Tour. “After the first game I just needed to tighten up my line to the pocket a little bit and more often than not I knocked them all down. I didn’t have to shoot at anything worse than a three-pin spare.”

Bohn, who notched his second top-qualifier honor in the last three tournaments, last won on the tour for players 50 and over in August of 2017 when he won the David Small’s Championship Lanes Classic. This season he has three top-five finishes with a best of second in the PBA50 Northern California Classic.

“I don’t mind telling you I’m tired of making shows and not winning,” said the 56-year-old left-hander. “There’s something to be learned from every tournament so hopefully I can put all that experience to use and win this one.”

As a result of finishing in the top eight, Bohn earned a bye into Friday’s second match play round. The other seven players earning a bye were: Joel Carlson, Omaha, Nebraska, 3,730; Brian Menini, Brookfield, Missouri., 3,700; Steve Jaros, Yorkville, Illinois, 3,686; Harry Sullins, Chesterfield Twp., Michigan., 3,682, followed by three Hall of Famers – Mark Williams, Beaumont, Texas, 3,671; 2019 David Small’s Championship Lanes Classic winner Ron Mohr, Las Vegas, 3,667, and Brian Voss, Centennial, Colorado, 3,644.

If PBA Hall of Famer Walter Ray Williams Jr. of Oxford, Florida is going to win his fourth tournament of the season and 15th of his career to take sole possession of the all-time PBA50 Tour titles lead, he’ll have to advance through Friday’s cashers round to earn a spot in the first match play round which is something he’s done in two of his wins that came early in the season.

Williams narrowly advanced to the cashers round finishing tied for 31st with 2017 PBA50 Player of the Year Brian LeClair, of Albany, New York. LeClair, who also advanced to the cashers round will be trying for his third win of the season.

Friday’s competition begins with the cashers round at 8:30 a.m. ET with match play rounds at noon and 3 p.m.  After match play is completed the top five players will advance to the stepladder finals at 7 p.m. ET.
