GUADALAJARA, Mexico -
The 2011 Pan American Bowling Confederation Men's Championships officially kicked off on Sunday night as the 16 countries in the event were recognized at the opening ceremonies.

Traditional Mexican music, speeches by bowling dignitaries and a ceremonial first shot by Ivan Sisniega, the Sports Director for the 2011 Pan American Games, helped usher in the event. The teams were also marched out in front of the crowd at Bolerama Tapatio.

The competition gets underway on Monday with the singles event. Team USA's Walter Ray Williams Jr. and Patrick Allen will compete on the opening squad, while the rest of the U.S. team - Chris Barnes, Bill O'Neill, Mike Fagan and Wes Malott - will compete on the afternoon squad.

The PABCON Men's Championships features teams in the American Zone competing in five-player team, trios, doubles, singles, all-events and match-play Masters. The United States has dominated the event in the past and since 1997 has won 25 of a possible 30 gold medals at the PABCON Men's Championships.

Before the opening ceremonies on Sunday night, the teams took part in official practice on Sunday afternoon on the two lane conditions selected for the event. The bowlers will take on the London (44 feet) and Stockholm (34 feet) patterns.
