Mother and daughter take Ruby lead at 2017 USBC Women's Championships

BATON ROUGE, La. - As a past doubles champion at the United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships, Tawnia Bryant of Twin Falls, Idaho, knows what it takes to win at the world's largest participatory sporting event for women.
The 1997 Division 2 Doubles champion passed on that passion for the sport to her daughter, Kelsie Bryant, and now the two may be able share that distinction after teaming up to take the lead in Ruby Doubles at the 2017 event Tuesday.
Kelsie Bryant led the effort at the Raising Cane's River Center with games of 169, 211 and 244 for a 624 series, and Tawnia Bryant added games of 165, 194 and 202 for a 561 total to give the pair a 1,185 total. Amanda Livingston of Eureka, California, and Darah Nolan of McKinleyville, California, previously held the lead with 1,134.
Although the pair cruised to the top spot in the standings, they had not looked at the leaderboard before making their way into the River Center, so there was a sense of shock to find out they had posted the score to beat.
"Coming from such a small town in Idaho and only bowling two nights a week, it's shocking that we did this well," Kelsie Bryant said. "I'm shaking, and it is an unreal feeling."
Pairing up for the first time at the Women's Championships, the Bryants now look forward to the last month of the event in hopes of holding onto the lead. Regardless the outcome, the experience will be one they won't forget.
"It means a lot to be here with my daughter," Tawnia Bryant said. "It's an excellent feeling to take the lead with her."
Ruby Doubles includes bowlers with combined entering averages of 350-379.
