DALLAS
- McKendree fought through a tough loss to begin Sunday's final round at the 2021 Prairie View A&M Invitational and persevered to capture its second consecutive victory, and third title in four years, at the event.

The Bearcats, the No. 2 seed in the 10-team field at USA Bowl after 25 Baker games and five traditional games Friday and Saturday, bounced back from a 4-1 loss to top seed Arkansas State in the opening round of the tournament's best-of-seven Baker bracket to sweep the Red Wolves in the championship round, 4-0.

McKendree averaged more than 204 as a team in the finals to claim the win.

The team's roster this week included Isabel Allen, Isabella Correa, Hope Gramly, Rebecca Hagerman, Amanda Morgan, Britaney Myers, Maranda Pattison and Kayla Smith.

The Bearcats' start to Baker competition Sunday, and subsequent loss to Arkansas State, included scores of 149 and 158, but the team found its stride the following round in a highly contested match against Sam Houston State.

The teams exchanged wins to ultimately end up tied 3-3, with McKendree taking the deciding game, 235-199, to earn a rematch with the Red Wolves in the title tilt.

In the finals, McKendree edged out Arkansas State in the opening game by two pins (189-187) and took advantage of a pair of 4-9 splits by the Red Wolves in Games 2 and 3 to take a 3-0 lead (227-190, 200-181).

In Game 4, McKendree grabbed the lead after a fourth-frame split by Arkansas State and stayed ahead of the Red Wolves for the remainder of the game, collecting a 201-179 win.

Nebraska finished the weekend in third place by defeating Sam Houston State in the final round of competition, 4-1.

All 10 teams this week bowled five five-game Baker matches Friday and five traditional games Saturday, before being seeded into the bracket.

In addition to the trophy, teams were competing to improve their overall records for the season, which helps determine the teams that will qualify for the 2021 NCAA Bowling Championship, being held in Kansas City, Missouri, from April 8-10.

McKendree also posted the top overall record for the weekend at USA Bowl, finishing with a 9-4 mark. Arkansas State, Nebraska and Youngstown State each posted 8-5 records.

Arkansas State earned the top seed for Sunday's bracket with a 9,851 total. McKendree was second with 9,810, while Youngstown State (9,455) and Sam Houston State (9,452) rounded out the top four.

McKendree's Gramly also was the top individual performer during Saturday's five-game block, earning most-valuable-player honors with a 1,105 total, a 221 average.

Joining Gramly on the all-tournament team were Youngstown State's Megan Grams (1,075), Stephen F. Austin's Carlene Beyer (1,070), Arkansas State's Faith Welch (1,061) and Sam Houston State's Denise Blankenzee (1,061).
