Match update (10/2/20): Carsten Hansen defeated Danielle McEwan in the Round of 16, 3-1 (226-247, 222-175, 228-204, 246-175).

ARLINGTON, Texas – Danielle McEwan of Stony Point, New York, will look to recapture the momentum she had in March at the 2020 Professional Bowling Association Scorpion Championship starting Friday.

The five-time Professional Women’s Bowling Association Tour titlist qualified for match play at the event, which originally was held at the South Point Bowling Plaza in March as part of the PBA World Series of Bowling XI.

The conclusion of the event was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic but restarted Thursday at Bowlero Centreville in Centreville, Virginia, with the match-play rounds of the Go Bowling! PBA Cheetah Championship and PBA Chameleon Championship. Match play for the Scorpion Championship gets underway Friday at 11 a.m. Eastern.

Bowlero Centreville also hosted the 2020 PBA League, which concluded Wednesday. McEwan competed at the event as part of the Miami Waves, one of two all-PWBA teams participating in the event.

McEwan, who qualified sixth in the 120-player Scorpion Championship field with a 2,270 total for her 10-game block, will face Denmark’s Carsten Hansen on Friday in the opening round of match play. The match will be a best-of-five contest.

If McEwan advances past Hansen, she’ll face the winner of a match featuring two PBA major champions – Sweden’s Jesper Svensson and Kris Prather of Plainfield, Illinois – Friday at 2 p.m. EDT, with the winner advancing to the televised finals.

The finals of the PBA Scorpion Championship will air Monday, Oct. 5 at 9 p.m. Eastern on FS1.

All match-play rounds leading up to TV are being broadcast on FloBowling.

McEwan qualified for the World Series of Bowling XI by leading the pre-tournament qualifier in March, rolling a 300 game along the way.

The two-time major champion became the first PWBA player to make a match-play cut at a WSOB event since Liz Johnson qualified 12th at the 2017 PBA Chameleon Championship. Johnson went on to win the title at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nevada.

McEwan is looking to join Johnson and Kelly Kulick as the only women to have won titles on the PBA Tour. Kulick was the first to accomplish the feat, winning the 2010 PBA Tournament of Champions.
