Litzelfelner rolls second 300 at USBC Open Championships

RENO, Nev. – John Litzelfelner of Jackson, Missouri, recorded the first 300 of the 2026 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships on Friday to make a second stop in the tournament’s record book for perfection at the National Bowling Stadium.

After starting singles with games of 213 and 225, the 46-year-old right-hander closed his set with 12 strikes to finish with a 738 series – the highest three-game block across his 25 consecutive appearances at the tournament.

The performance helped Litzelfelner become just the 45th competitor across 122 editions of the USBC Open Championships to deliver multiple perfect games at the event. His first 300 occurred during the 2014 tournament – also in Reno at the NBS – in his final game of the team event.

The achievement was amplified by a surprise appearance from his family to celebrate his 25th year and sharing the moment with many longtime friends, including USBC President Dennis Hacker.

In addition to his 738 in singles, Litzelfelner also added 579 in team and 570 in doubles for an all-events score of 1,887 – also a personal best at the Open Championships.

The Open Championships is celebrating its 122nd edition in 2026 and making its 15th trip to Reno, Nevada. The 2026 event is scheduled to feature more than 55,000 bowlers and 11,000 five-player teams competing across 128 consecutive days at the National Bowling Stadium.
