Kent named IBMA Bowler of the Month

ARLINGTON, Texas - Team USA and Junior Team USA member Marshall Kent, of Yakima, Wash., has been named the September 2012 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association.
 
WYC Marshall KentThe 19-year-old defeated the No. 10 seed Oleksandr Kalika, Ukraine, in a two-game total pins match, 419-323, to win his first European Bowling Tour title, the EBT Russian Open at Cosmik Belay Dacha in Moscow. Kent lead the six-game qualifier by 61 pins, then won three two-game total pins matches to advance to the title against Kalika.
 
In the Round of 16, Kent ousted No. 16 seed Alexey Parshukov, Russia, 530-439. Kent then bested the No. 13 seed Evgeny Karmazin, Ukraine, 451-406, in the Round of 8 to meet the defending champion Mykhaylo Kalika, Ukraine, Oleksandr's brother, in the semifinals. Kalika fell to Kent, 507-400.
 
This is Kent's third IBMA Kegel Bowler of the Month award, becoming the first USBC youth bowler to claim honors. He first won the award in July 2010 based on wins in two prestigious youth scholarship tournaments, the 2010 USBC Junior Gold Boys' Division followed two weeks later with a win at the 2010 North Pointe Insurance High School Open Singles Classic. Kent then won July 2012 honors based on his five-medal performance at the 12th World Youth Bowling Championships.
 
Others receiving votes were Chris Barnes, men's gold medalist, and Kelly Kulick, women's gold medalist at the World Tenpin Bowling Association World Singles Championships.
