Iowa bowler rolls 300 game at Youth Open

ARLINGTON, Texas - Adam Morse of West Des Moines, Iowa, got off to quite a start in team competition at the United States Bowling Congress Youth Open Championships on July 13 at Sterling Lanes in Sterling, Mich.
Morse, 17, became the third bowler in the tournament's history to roll a 300 game. He finished team competition with games of 199 and 189 for a 688 series. His Greater Iowa Scholarship Bowling Tour (GISBT) All Stars team is in eighth place in the four-member Under 20 team competition with a 2,581 total.
The 2013 USBC Youth Open Championships runs through July 28 and, in addition to team, Morse currently is in the top 10 in two divisions.
In Under 20 Doubles, he had games of 257, 245 and 188 for a 690 series. His teammate, Spencer Werthmann, 18, of Davenport, Iowa, had a 671 series and the duo currently is in ninth place with a 1,361 total. Morse had a 667 series in singles, and his 2,045 All-Events total is good for seventh place.
In addition to the Youth Open, Morse also took part in the North Pointe Junior Gold Championships, averaging 194.8 during the first 15 games to reach the Advancers Round and barely missed qualifying for the Final Advancers Round.
Morse competed in the Junior/Senior Youth league at Plaza Lanes this past season and is bowling in the Youth Masters adult/youth mixed league at Air Lanes this summer.
There have been four perfect games in USBC Youth Open Championships history, all in team competition. Dan Reinke of New Ulm, Minn., rolled the first 300 game at the 2011 USBC Youth Open Championships in Las Vegas. Jacob Kent of Newark, N.Y., also had a perfect game in 2011. Josh Mullen of Bellingham, Wash. had a 300 in this year's tournament on July 19.
