RENO, Nev. – Diane Nehl of New Hampton, Iowa, was on a roll at the 2024 United States Bowling Congress Women’s Championships this week, averaging nearly 210 across nine games to take the all-events lead in the Ruby Division with a score of 1,881.
Nehl set up scores of 677 in doubles, 618 in singles and 586 in team at the National Bowling Stadium.
“Oh, it’s just awesome – I can’t believe it,” said Nehl, explaining how she felt when she took the lead.
This was a special moment for her because she was coming into the tournament with the mindset of doing well. Taking the lead for her division proved she had the right plan.
“I was shocked that I made all-events. It was unbelievable,” Nehl said. “I’m going to take some pictures (of the leaderboard).”
The motivation from her teammates kept Nehl going as they cheered her on. This is what boosted her confidence in the last game as she finished her set.
“They were so supportive of me to keep it going,” Nehl said.
Having the added support from her teammates helped Nehl bowl some of the best sets of her 28-year tournament career at the USBC Women’s Championships.
“This has been the best I’ve bowled I think in all the years I’ve been going,” mentioned Nehl. “I felt more comfortable and shot out well today.”
With her tournament appearance complete, Nehl reflected on her performance and how it was a great tournament. Ending off on a high note and taking the lead for all-events was the confirmation of what she came in to do.
“It felt really good,” Nehl said. “I could’ve done a little better, but overall, I felt very good about it.”
Ruby All-Events features bowlers with entering averages of 156-175.
