Dalton Taylor, 10, of Wichita Falls, Texas, set a goal of a 160 game and 400 series for the 2013-2014 season. He reached the game goal with a 172 at the city tournament on Jan. 19, but missed his series goal by four pins. On March 29 during the Saturday Morning Youth League at South Lanes, he would set another personal high game with a 209, and then added games of 178 and 124 for a 511 series that was 100 pins over average. Dalton also was honored that day as the winner of the Texas State Championships Tournament Patch Contest winner and recipient of a $250 scholarship.
Daniel Wieand, 16, of Palmerton, Pennsylvania, rolled his first 300 game and his first 700 series in the Steve’s Strikers league at Haja Lanes in Palmerton on March 28. Daniel, who was averaging 209 in the league, had games of 268, 300 and 192 for a 760 series.
Justin Paxton (right), 16, of New Port Richey, Florida, rolled an 878 series on March 8 at Lane Glo Bowl in New Port Richey, to break the center’s series record that stood for more than 30 years. Justin posted games of 300, 278, and 300 for the 878 during the Lane Glo Youth League. He would add a Sport 300 to his accomplishments on June 3, rolling games of 205, 195 and 300 for a 700 series.
Ric McCormick (left), 18, of Cincinnati, Ohio, posted an 824 series to win the 2014 District Pepsi Tournament on March 2 at Strike Zone Lanes in Franklin, Ohio. With games of 266, 258, and 300 for the 824 series, Ric won the Pepsi District event in Southwest Ohio for the third consecutive year.
A full field of 160 youth bowlers took part in the 3rd Annual Danny Wiseman Youth Scholarship Tournament presented by Charis Contractors in Middle River, Maryland, on Oct. 12. The PBA Hall of Famer’s event awarded more than $21,000 in scholarships including more than $19,310 to 66 different competitors. Adam Zimmerman (below, left) took the Scratch title while Brianna Marie Barna (below, right) won the handicap division. The tournament included a 2015 Junior Gold division and winners were Brandon Bohn (U12), Mandy Barna (U15 Girls), Ryen Middleton (U15 Boys), Olivia Laird (U20 Girls) and Adam Zimmerman and Roger Harford Jr. (U20 Boys).
