ARLINGTON, Texas - Five United States Bowling Congress Youth members have been selected to receive the 2016 Earl Anthony Memorial Scholarship in recognition of their academic achievements and community service.

The International Bowling Campus Youth Committee determined the recipients of the Earl Anthony Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded in honor of the late USBC and Professional Bowlers Association Hall of Famer who was dedicated to assisting youth bowlers. The 2016 award winners each will receive a $5,000 scholarship.

The 2016 Earl Anthony Memorial Scholarship recipients are:

• Cyan Baker, Chicago
• McKenna Collier, Brick, New Jersey
• Lauren Douglas, Phoenix
• Richard Hochecker IV, Ballwin, Missouri
• Zachary Marlow, Gulfport, Mississippi

Baker is a senior at Lindblom Math and Science Academy and holds a 4.6 grade-point average (4.0 scale). A National Honor Society school chapter vice president, she was one of only 80 students to receive a $10,000 Nordstrom Scholarship in 2015. She is a four-year girls varsity bowling team member and also was selected as an Illinois State scholar by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission.

She has served food to senior citizens and the homeless during Thanksgiving as part of Mu Chapter Xinos, a school outreach and leadership program affiliated with national sorority Phi Delta Kappa. She also has worked on several community outreach projects with JROTC, INROADS College Links, Illinois Tech Global Leaders and Girl Scouts of America.

Collier holds a 3.9 GPA as a three-year "Distinguished Honor Roll" student at Brick Memorial High School, while taking 11 honors courses including chemistry, U.S. history and French. She is a four-year member of the varsity bowling team, an active member of the Student Government Association and a member of the Creative Writing Club.

She has volunteered more than 250 hours of time working with the Brick Rotary Club, assisted with setup and clean up for school dances as part of the Student Government Association, participated in school fundraising efforts and served as a volunteer bowling coach at her local center.

Douglas currently is a junior at the University of St. Francis (Illinois), where she possesses a 3.89 GPA (4.0 scale) and competes on the lanes for the Fighting Saints. Collegiately, she has garnered several academic honors during her career which includes a stop at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. She has been named a National Tenpin Coaches Association Academic All-American, selected to the Dean's List, earned a Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal and earned an Athletic Director's Honor Roll selection.

She is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) where she's participated in campus food drives, and currently is aiding a campus initiative to end sexual violence as part of the nationwide, "It's On Us" campaign. She also has volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, Greater Birmingham Humane Society and Children's Hospital of Alabama.

Hochecker, who attends South Tech High School with a weighted GPA of 3.79 (4.0 scale), has taken several AP and Honors classes. He is a member of the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society and the South Tech Ambassador program. He's also earned several awards including Shop Assistant, Consistent Outstanding Math Performance and Math Student of the Month.

He was elected as a youth director to the St. Louis USBC Board of Directors, and has served as a member of the St. Louis USBC Youth Committee, Missouri State USBC Youth Committee and as chairman of the Publicity Committee. This is Hochecker's second USBC honor after being selected as the 2014 USBC Male Youth Ambassador of the Year.

Marlow, a senior at Bay High School, holds a weighted GPA of 4.21 and is a member of the National Honor Society, a four-year member of the Alpha Honor Roll and Woodman of the Year award winner in U.S. history. He is a member of the Marksmanship team, Academic Bowl team, Awareness Presentation team, Physical Training team and the Spanish Club.

He's held several JROTC staff positions including WINGS Chief, Logistics Commander and Group Executive Officer while volunteering nearly 200 hours at several JROTC events including Color Guard participation, flag folding lessons at Bayou View Elementary and beach, bridge and cemetery clean-up projects. He also assisted with the Relay for Life event as part of the National Honor Society.
