First round of singles concludes at TofA

The first of two rounds of singles competition concluded Monday at the 50th Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas in Tamarac, Fla., with Team USA's Danielle McEwan the high finisher in the adult division for the United States.
After six of 12 games, McEwan sits in second place with 1,216 and trails Colombia's Rocio Restrepo by just one pin at Sawgrass Lanes. Team USA's Addileen Pointer is fifth at 1,135.
In the adult men's division, Costa Rica's Alejandro Reyna leads with 1,291, while Team USA's AJ Johnson is fifth with 1,213. The United States' Jarret Mizo is sixth at 1,205.
In the Junior A division (ages 16-19), Junior Team USA member Tyler Cruz leads by more than 100 pins with 1,288. Fellow American AJ Chapman sits in fourth with 1,177. Guatemala's Lorena Balanos leads the girls with 1,174 and is followed by a pair of Americans with Holly Harris second at 1,136 and Elise Bolton third at 1,131.
Kamron Doyle of the United States leads the Junior B division (ages 12-15) boys with 1,282, while teammate Wesley Low sits in fourth with 1,103. On the girls side, Colombia's Laura Piazas leads at 1,246 with Ashley Dunn of the U.S. second with 1,220. Kaitlyn Eder of the U.S. is seventh at 905.
In the Senior division, the United States' Brian Brazeau sits in fourth at 1,178, while Steve Kiss is ninth with 1,110. Pam Sprow leads the senior women with 1,242, while Paula Vidad is second with 1,206.
The U.S. Super Seniors got off to a good start with Lucy Sandelin leading the women with 1,172, while Carol Teel was second at 1,163. Ed Roberts is second among the men with 1,231 and Jerry Teel is third at 1,208.
Competition continues Tuesday with the final six games of the singles event to determine medalists.
The Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas is the oldest annual international tournament in the American Zone. The invitational competition for countries of PABCON (Pan American Bowling Confederation - the American Zone of World Tenpin Bowling Association) has five divisions for men and women.
