Finalists set at 2016 Intercollegiate Team Championships

Bracket: Men | Women

WICHITA, Kan. -
William Paterson will face off against McKendree in the men's title match at the 2016 Intercollegiate Team Championships, while Wichita State takes on Webber International in the women's finals.

The ITC finals will be among the four television shows being taped Saturday starting at 10 a.m. Eastern, with the final round of the men's and women's Intercollegiate Singles Championships also taking place.

The women's singles show will air Tuesday, May 10 at 9 p.m. Eastern, while the men's singles show will air Tuesday, May 17 at 9 p.m. Eastern on CBS Sports Network.

CBS Sports Network will air the women's team final Tuesday, May 24 at 10 p.m. Eastern, and the men's final will air Saturday, June 4 at noon Eastern.

The four remaining ITC teams made their way through the double-elimination match-play bracket that featured the top 32 collegiate programs in the country. Competition took place Thursday and Friday at Northrock Lanes.

In March, the William Paterson men put together the highest 16-game Baker block in ITC Sectionals history to earn the final spot from the Stratford, New Jersey, sectional and used that momentum to run through this week's bracket undefeated, including a 4-2 victory over defending ITC champion Wichita State in the semifinals. The Pioneers are looking to capture their first ITC title since 1992.

"Pretty surreal is a way to describe it," said William Paterson sophomore Jake Rollins. "We were out of it by a bunch at sectionals and were able to pull it back. We're a great team. We can compete with the best teams around, and we showed that here. It's been amazing."

The McKendree men fell to Webber International to get knocked to the elimination bracket earlier on Friday but bested the Warriors in consecutive matches, 4-3 and 4-1, to advance to their first ITC final since 2013. The Bearcats are in search of their first Helmer Cup.

"The connection this team has as a group, and the support we've put together, is unbelievable," said McKendree senior Riley Smith. "Being able to win twice shows how hard we fight as a team, and it's truly amazing. We think about the (Helmer) Cup all the time, and to have the chance to bring it back to McKendree gives me chills."

The Wichita State women put together a dominating 2015-2016 regular season and continued strong in front of their hometown crowd Friday. The Shockers posted an undefeated record in match play and swept Maryland Eastern Shore in the semifinals, 4-0, and now look to add a record 10th ITC title to the program's collection.

"I can't believe how awesome our supporters are, and it really means a lot," said Wichita State senior Daria Kovalova. "It really feels like home and means we won't be scared when we need to throw good shots, because they're behind us all the way."

The Webber International women needed to defeat McKendree twice in the semifinals to advance to Saturday's championship round after falling to the Bearcats in Thursday's second round. The Warriors, the tournament's top seed from qualifying, won the deciding game in each match, winning both 4-3, and now are in position to claim a third ITC title.

"We knew it was going to be tough, since McKendree is a great team," said Webber International graduate student Tawni Vollmer, who also made the Intercollegiate Singles Championships semifinals. "We were just really focused on our process and sticking with it. We knew they were going to put up a fight, so we were focusing on our shots and filling frames and really dug deep. To have a W on my jersey and to bowl in the singles and team shows is unbelievable. It's a dream come true."
