Eight earn Junior Team USA spots at Junior Gold

ADDISON, Ill. - Eight bowlers earned spots on Junior Team USA on Thursday as the Junior Gold Championships presented by Storm, Roto Grip and Master wrapped up qualifying and headed to match play.

The top four age-eligible boys and top four age-eligible girls earned automatic spots on Junior Team USA after 24 games of qualifying, which wrapped up Thursday at Stardust Bowl.

For the boys, Michael Tang of San Francisco, Kamron Doyle of Brentwood, Tennessee, Cortez Schenck of Phoenix and Thomas Peters, Belleville, Illinois, all earned spots. Qualifying leader Dallas Leong of Las Vegas was ineligible for a spot due to age requirements.

Breanna Clemmer of Clover, South Carolina, Hollyann Johansen of Wichita, Kansas, Sydney Brummett of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Julia Bond of Aurora, Illinois, all earned Junior Team USA spots.

The top age-eligible boy and girl in the U15 division earned automatic spots on the U15 Developmental Team. Tom Hankey of Great Barrington, Massachusetts, and Katherine Corbin of Romney, West Virginia, took the spots.

The top 16 bowlers in the U20 and U15 divisions and the top eight bowlers in the U12 division advanced to match play Thursday with the first two rounds of competition taking place. Match play results and brackets can be found here.

Competition resumes Friday morning and continues until the champions have been crowned.

Additional Junior Team USA spots will be given to the winner and runner-up after bracket play in the U20 division. If one or both of the finalists in the bracket already earned a spot through qualifying, the spot goes to the next age-eligible athlete based on the qualifying standings. Bowlers must be age 20 or younger as of Jan. 1, 2016, to be eligible.

Two additional U15 Developmental Team spots will be awarded Friday as the bracket champions in the U15 division will earn spots if they meet age requirements. Bowlers must be age 15 or younger as of Jan. 1, 2016 to be eligible.
