Duggan surges into Senior Queens lead

ARLINGTON, Texas - Defending champion and Hall of Famer Anne Marie Duggan of Edmond, Okla., put together a big second round Saturday to move into the qualifying lead at the 2013 United States Bowling Congress Senior Queens presented by Storm.

After sitting in third after the first round, Duggan now leads with a 10-game total of 2,311 at the International Training and Research Center. Fellow Hall of Famer Dana Miller-Mackie of Albuquerque, N.M., is second with 2,293.

Duggan, who defeated Miller-Mackie for the title last year, put together a huge second round with a five-game total of 1,200 (240 average) to take the lead heading into the final qualifying round on Sunday.

"I was able to throw my Storm Byte all day and it really reacted great," Duggan said. "Yesterday on the fresh, I used two or three different balls to stay in the same spot, so it was nice to have the same look all day."

Hall of Famer Tish Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colo., sits in third with 2,266 while 2011 Senior Queens champion Paula Vidad of Sun City, Calif., is fourth with 2,264.

All 40 bowlers will return to the ITRC on Sunday at 11 a.m. Eastern for the third and final five-game block of qualifying. After 15 games of qualifying, the top 15 competitors and Duggan will advance to double-elimination match play.

Every round of competition of the Senior Queens is being be broadcast live on BowlTV, including the stepladder finals on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Eastern. Bowlers are competing for a top prize of $3,000 and the coveted tiara presented to the champion.

The end of qualifying also will wrap up the Senior Women's Triple Crown Series presented by The Orleans. The special event was created for bowlers who participate in the Senior Queens, Senior U.S. Women's Open and National Golden Ladies Classic and features a top prize of $1,000.

The top 10 players in the Triple Crown Series advance to a single-elimination bracket based on their qualifying scores from each of the three events. The Triple Crown Shoot-Out presented by The Orleans will be shown live on BowlTV on Sunday at 7 p.m. Eastern.
