Dorin-Ballard leads two events at 2023 USBC Women’s Championships

LAS VEGAS – For most who compete at the United States Bowling Congress Women’s Championships, they’re hoping to win their first gemstone trophy awarded to the champion in each division and event.
There was one bowler Saturday at the South Point Bowling Plaza, however, who was looking to add another title or two to her already impressive collection – Carolyn Dorin-Ballard of Keller, Texas.
The five-time winner at the USBC Women’s Championships put on a strike fest during her run in Las Vegas to take over the lead in Diamond All-Events, one day after helping BVBC move into the Diamond Team lead at the Bowling Plaza.
The USBC and Professional Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Famer put up impressive sets of 703 in team, 673 in doubles and 721 in singles for a leading total of 2,097. She averaged 233 for her nine games this year at South Point.
Megan Jirsa from Middleton, Wisconsin, previously held the lead in Diamond All-Events with 2,035.
“I just wanted to come in and make sure I threw some good shots,” said Dorin-Ballard, the 2000 Classic All-Events champion. “I’ve been trying some different things with my game, and it went pretty well.”

On Friday, BVBC took the lead in Diamond Team with games of 877, 904 and 856 for a 2,637 series. Dorin-Ballard was joined by Marcia Kloempken (674), Amanda Broege (637) and Shannon Sellens (623) in the performance.
“My team does not have a team title yet,” Dorin-Ballard said about her team’s run Friday. “I have a great team behind me.”
With Dorin-Ballard’s resume at the Women’s Championships, on the PWBA Tour and as a member of Team USA, it’s no surprise she’s known as one of the greatest ever to take the lanes.
Her simple advice helps to show why she’s ready for any situation.
“I never stopped bowling,” said Dorin-Ballard, a 20-time winner on the PWBA Tour and the 2001 USBC Queens champion. “I always make sure that before I bowl an event, I make sure I am as prepared as possible.”
The Diamond Division features bowlers with entering averages of 175 and above.
The 2023 Women’s Championships started April 23 and will conclude July 2. The event will run for 71 consecutive days at the South Point Bowling Plaza and feature more than 4,200 four-player teams and nearly 17,000 bowlers.
