The 46-year-old right-hander closed out his 2010 tournament campaign with the 32nd perfect game of this year's event, and his success reignited his passion for the Open Championships.

"For some reason, when I come to this tournament, it's so hard for me to do what comes naturally at home in league," said Price, who made his fifth Open Championships appearance. "There are definitely some nerves here, and I don't know if it's because of the venue or what, but I know it's all me. I was beginning to wonder why I keep coming since I really haven't done anything since 2001. Now, I know. This is really exciting, and I can't wait to come back next year."

Price struggled in team, shooting 523, but rallied in doubles and singles Thursday morning. He shot 607 in doubles and started singles with games of 168 and 195 before tossing 12 consecutive strikes for a 663 series and 1,793 all-events total, his highest since shooting 1,799 in his tournament debut in 2001.

"I knew I could throw the shots when I needed to, and my last game proved that," said Price, who bowls regularly at Sweetheart Lanes in Loveland. "I switched balls and started hitting my mark. It's just a matter of being able to do it consistently, and I'm glad I was able to find a line that would work."

In order to prepare for the Open Championships, Price found a coach, practiced a lot and challenged himself on a variety of lane conditions to help him learn how to adjust and play different parts of the lane. He also has made some changes in his equipment and added to his arsenal.

"I like the competition and being able to figure out how to succeed here," Price said. "Doing well makes me want to go home and work some more, so next year, I can do better and be more consistent."

More than anything, though, returning to the Open Championships gives Price the chance to compete alongside his father, Earl, and their friends. Each year they return now, Price will be a tournament celebrity.

"My dad and I started bowling this together, and we enjoyed it, so we kept coming back," Price said. "It's nice that we get to bowl with some friends, and it also makes for a good vacation. After today, I am excited about coming back. I told my dad that my name will always be a part of this event now. I'm part of an elite group, and that's pretty cool."
