Robert Morris of Illinois claims Nittany Lion Kegler Classic crowns
Robert Morris University of Illinois swept the titles at the Nittany Lion Kegler Classic held Dec. 29-30 at AMF Parkway Bowling Lanes in Allentown, Pa.
The Tier I event featured 43 men's teams and 15 women's teams.
In the men's division, Robert Morris University had a 9,390 pinfall total to top Saginaw Valley State by more than 300 pins with Purdue (8,994) taking third place. Robert Morris (Pa.) finished fourth with Davenport University placing fifth.
Ryan Melching of Saginaw Valley State averaged 235 over five games (1,175 pinfall total) to take the men's individual honors in the field in which the top four finishers were separated by 14 pins. Davenport's Dan Pollack (1,168) was second followed by Mikey Hill (1,162) and Chris Pierson (1,161), both from Robert Morris of Illinois. Charles Easton (1,157) of the University of Toledo took fifth. Matt Johns of Indiana University, who finished seventh, had a 299 game.
The Robert Morris women's team totaled 8,613 pins to beat Briarcliffe College (8,382) and Newman University (8,177). Notre Dame College was fourth followed by Davenport University.
Heather D'Errico of Robert Morris of Illinois rolled a 300 game en route to winning the women's individual title with a 1,094 pinfall total (218 average). Davenport's Reba Wilke (1,043) finished second with D'Errico's teammate, Alejandra Mora (1,027), taking third. Briarcliffe College teammates Sarah O'Brien (993) and Gina Capone (980) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
