Robert Morris, Lindenwood claim National Collegiate Team Match Games titles
FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. - The Robert Morris-Chicago men's team and the Lindenwood women's team each took home titles from the National Collegiate Team Match Games, a Tier I event held at St. Clair Bowl and Bel-Air Bowl on Nov. 26-27.
In the 35-team men's field, Robert Morris was in fifth place after the opening day of competition, trailing Purdue by more than 212 pins, but came back during Baker competition to take the title with an 11,122 pinfall total, including bonus pins. Jacob Kent, who averaged 209 for six games to finish ninth individually, and Joe Vrobel (207, 15th) led Robert Morris.
Purdue (10,984) held on for second place followed by Webber International (10,956), McKendree (10,917) and Pikeville (10,808).
Purdue's T.J. Schmidt averaged nearly 230 to claim the individual title ahead of Lindenwood's R.J. Klann (224). Cooper Buchholz of Newman was third, followed by Pikeville's Zeke Bayt and Wichita State's Marcus Berndt.
Lindenwood topped the 28-team women's field to claim its third tournament victory this season. Webber International took the lead on the opening day, but only 53 pins separated Webber from fifth-place Lindenwood.
Lindenwood finished with an 11,226 pinfall total to beat McKendree by 171 pins. Maryland Eastern Shore was third followed by Midland, Wichita State and Webber. Lindenwood was led by Crystal Brooks (201 average, seventh place individually) and Jenny Petzoldt (198, 13th).
Pikeville's Kim Yioulos took individual honors by averaging 213 over six games with Andrea Reeves of Midland taking second at 210. West Texas A&M had two top-5 finishers in Wendy Shelton (208, third) and Nicollette Yurich (203, fifth), while Webber's Diana Zavjalova (207) was fourth.
