Notre Dame College, Wright State take titles at American Heartland

BEAVERCREEK, Ohio - Notre Dame College of Ohio captured the men's title while Wright State took the women's title at the American Heartland Intercollegiate Bowling Conference I tournament held at Beaver-Vu Bowl.

The Notre Dame men shot 8,171 to edge Davenport (8,086) with Saginaw Valley finishing third followed by Wright State and Toledo. Nicholas Fadil averaged 200.8 and Chris Via, who finished third at the 2010 USBC Junior Gold Championships, averaged 200.4 to pace Notre Dame College.

Jeremy Dixson of Saginaw Valley State was the men's individual leader, averaging 218.4 for the five games with a 4-1 match-play record. Michigan State's Andy Wardell was second with a 214.8 average followed by Toledo's Charles Easton (214.8), Wright State's Ryan Dobie (206.4) and Ohio State's Scott Thielsen (203.4).

Heidi Sanders averaged 201.0 and teammate Kristen Keenan averaged 194.8 to finish 1-2 in the women's individual standing and lead Wright State to the women's title. Davenport was second with Notre Dame College taking third.

UNLV captures Sin City Open

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - After qualifying second, UNLV came back to beat top-seed Fresno State in the stepladder finals to win the 2010 Sin City Open.

Fresno State shot 1,055 in the ninth and final game of qualifying to edge UNLV by 34 pins for the top seed. Fresno State averaged 1,040.56 during qualifying.

In the championship match, UNLV took the first two games in the best-of-five finals by scores of 205-190 and 214-201. Fresno State took the next two games, 236-192 and 225-157, before UNLV won the deciding game, 192-177.

Pikeville, Bellarmine roll to Green River titles

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Pikeville College men's team ran away with the title at the Green River Classic at Phillips Lanes. After the five team games of qualifying, Pikeville had more than a 450-pin lead and would finish with an 8,537 pinfall total to top Cumberland (8,040) and Bellarmine University (7,836).

James Cheff paced Pikeville College, which had three of the top five individual bowlers. Cheff had a 1,174 total (234.8 average) while teammate Zachary Maddox was third at 1,117 and Jeremy King was fifth at 1,065. Will Haroldson of Bellarmine was second at 1,133 and Cumberland's Theo Shipp shot 1,083 for fourth place among individuals.

Bellarmine University took the women's title with Cumberland University finishing second and Bethel taking third. Kaitlin Quinn of Bellarmine shot 1,008 over five games (a 201.6 average) to lead individual scoring. She was followed by Shelby Quinn of Cumberland at 943 and Bellarmine's Stephanie Brownie shot 934.
