The Emmanuel women and Pikeville men recorded victories last weekend at the Thomas Burris Memorial in Louisville, Kentucky.
The event was held at Executive Strike & Spare and featured 15 men's varsity teams and 15 women's varsity teams. The format featured five traditional games and 12 Baker games, with total pinfall determining the champion in each division.
The Emmanuel women led the field by 44 pins heading into Baker competition, and the Lions maintained their advantage to secure the win with a 7,185 total. Pikeville finished second with 7,149, and Cumberlands was third with 6,549.
Along with the team win, Emmanuel also had three of the top five individual performances. Chelsea Lein led the women's field with a 1,079 total, a 215.8 average, while teammates Cara Stasel (1,034) and Arianna Campbell (1,027) were third and fourth, respectively. Keri Ladigo of Martin Methodist finished second with 1,037, and Pikeville's Jenna Coldiron rounded out the top five with 1,020.
On the men's side, Pikeville followed a similar path to the title. The Bears built a lead during the first five games and never looked back, posting a 7,698 total. Emmanuel took second with 7,550, and Life was third 7,286.
Emmanuel's David Hooper, who recently finished as the runner-up in the 20-and-under division at the 2017 Junior Gold Championships, put together the top individual performance after averaging more than 232 for five games, finishing with a 1,164 total. Pikeville's Matt Cleary was second with 1,155, while Cumberlands' Robert Castle (1,110), Savannah College of Art and Design-Atlanta's Christian Sprague (1,104) and Pikeville's Jonathan Lovett (1,101) also finished in the top five.
In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:
- At the Warrior Fall Classic in Troy, Michigan, the Lawrence Tech men and Concordia women posted the winning totals.
- At the Louisville Classic in Jeffersonville, Kentucky, the Pikeville men and women swept the top spots.
